Postrgraduate Medical Institute
Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore (PGMI) was established in 1974 in the building of Experimental Medicine Department of King Edward Medical College Lahore. Once Allama Iqbal Medical College moved out of the premises of its Birdwood Road Campus to its new purpose built campus at new campus, Punjab University and Jinnah Hospital in 1995, the Birdwood Road Campus along with Services Hospital were handed over to PGMI. Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lahore is running 60 courses in various disciplines of medical science, which includes 12 diplomas (minor qualification) and 48 degree courses (major qualification). This Institute caters not only the needs of the Punjab but also of other provinces like Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, Islamabad . FATA. Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit & Baltistan. PGMI has provided teaching and training facilities to the students from other countries like Sri Lanka , Nepal , Bangladesh , Afghanistan , Iran and Arab countries. In this way PGMI has been strengthening ties of friendship with these countries and other provinces. Up till now more than 9384 students have been enrolled in PGMI and 3310 doctors have passed their postgraduate examinations. There are 33 basic and clinical departments in Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore and the institute is providing an optimal teaching and research facilities to its students. PGMI has been developing post graduate syllabi and curriculum and has been teaching and training the post graduate students for various degree courses from its inception. PGMI was initially affiliated to University of the Punjab for final award of degrees and diplomas and later on with University of Health Sciences. The Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore also publishes its own scientific journal i.e. Pakistan Postgraduate Medical Institute journal, an accredited journal by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, Islamabad. New departments of Medical Education, Biostatistics, research and quality assurance are being added. 100 students under graduate medical school is being added to the banners of the Post Graduate Medical institute, which shall provide an all important strong junior healthcare provider team.
Ameer-ud-Din Medical College
Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (abbreviated as AMC; also known as PGMI Medical College), established in 2012, is one of the five public colleges of medicine located in, Lahore. It is registered with PMDC, listed in IMED, affiliated with PGMI and UHS, and approved by Ministry of Health. Lahore General Hospital is attached as training and teaching hospital. Dr. Ameer served as senior professor of surgery at Mayo Hospital at the time of partition. He rendered glorious services for the treatment of those who got injured at the hands of Sikhs and Hindus during migration. The secret of his success as a medical educationist lay in the fact that he practiced in his life what he preached in his lectures to his students. Prof. Ameer-ud-Din was punctual and produced health professional who headed various eminent institutions in Punjab and other provinces. He used to extend his helping hands towards the needy impecunious patients and educational scholarships to the deserving students. Prof. Ameer sold his personal capacious house situated at the most expensive area of the city Gulberg and donated all the money got from purchasing his house to the development of the Paediatric Surgery Ward of Mayo Hospital Lahore. Considering his unprecedented contribution towards medical education and his arduous services for the ailing humanity, the Academic Council of PGMI/AMC decided to honour him by giving his name to this newly established medical college. Fifth badge of 100 students were inducted this year. University of Health Sciences (UHS) process the Admission procedure.
