In preparation for the upcoming observance of Ashura during Muharram, Lahore General Hospital (LGH) has initiated a high-alert protocol to manage potential medical emergencies. The Administrative Committee, led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal, Principal of PGMI/AMC/LGH, convened to outline comprehensive measures ensuring optimal patient care during this period. Key Directives and Preparations: Enhanced Emergency Services: All staff, particularly in the Emergency Department, are to remain vigilant and available for duty. No leave will be granted without prior approval from the Medical Superintendent until July 7. Additional medical staff will be deployed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram to handle the expected surge of patients. Medical Supplies and Blood Bank Readiness: The AMS Pharmacy has been instructed to ensure an ample stock of life-saving medicines in the Emergency Department. The blood bank in-charge has been asked to maintain a sufficient supply of blood of all groups until the Day of Ashura. Special Arrangements for Mourners: Separate beds will be allocated for mourners injured during self-flagellation rituals (Zanjeerzani), ensuring that treatment for regular patients remains unaffected. These measures underscore LGH's commitment to providing uninterrupted and high-quality medical services during the sacred period of Muharram, particularly on the Day of Ashura.
